Timbers' Diego Valeri paints tifo, then creates onfield art in Cascadia win

Timbers Army tifo - "Legends never sleep" - before PORvSEA, 17 July 2016

The Timbers Army helped fuel their rivals’ nightmares, unveiling a Freddy Kreuger-themed tifo complete with the looming likeness of the “Nightmare on Elm Street” villain and banners reading “Legends never sleep” before Portland’s 3-1 victory Sunday against the Seattle Sounders.

Midfielder Diego Valeri, who missed Portland’s last three games with an injury, reestablished his presence in every way, scoring twice Sunday – after helping to create the impressive display in the hours before the match.

Valeri’s return helped end a string of three straight draws that the Timbers settled for in their star midfielder’s absence. His tifo work went on display as the masterpiece was unveiled during the final chords of the national anthem. His on-field impact came not long after, with his first goal coming right before halftime in the 44th minute and his second just five minutes after the break.
