Report: DC United chasing Peruvian attacker Andy Polo

D.C. United have made an offer to Colombian club Millonarios for Peruvian attacker Andy Polo, according to Peruvian outlet Libero.

The 21-year-old Polo, who is currently on loan from Millonarios to Peruvian club Universitario, was a key part of the Peru team at the Copa America Centenario, appearing in all four of the Group C winner’s matches and starting their win against Brazil and penalty shootout loss to Colombia in the quarterfinals.

He’s bounced around a bit on the club level, starting his career in his native Peru before signing with Italian clubs Genoa and Inter Milan – neither of whom he appeared for – before joining Millonarios in June 2014. He’s been on loan from the Colombian club to Universitario since March 2015, scoring three goals in 41 league appearances for the Lima side. He has one goal in six career appearances with the Peruvian senior national team.

D.C., who have the third-fewest goals in MLS this year, have already made an attacking move in the MLS summer transfer window, acquiring winger Lloyd Sam in a trade with the New York Red Bulls last week. United head coach Ben Olsen indicated in the buildup to the Sam trade that the club have money to spend and are looking to make additions, potentially opening the door for more acquisitions in the summer window.
