Portland's Fanendo Adi wins Etihad Airways Player of the Month for April

Fanendo Adi - Portland Timbers - Player of the Month

Portland Timbers forward Fanendo Adi won the Etihad Airways MLS Player of the Month award on Thursday, netting 33.56 percent of the vote to take top honors in April.

Adi scored three goals and produced one assist in five games in April, most notably netting twice as a second-half substitute in Portland's 3-1 win against the San Jose Earthquakes on April 16. His other goal and his assist each helped Portland earn road ties.

Currently tied for the Audi MLS Golden Boot lead with seven goals, Adi has helped the Timbers go 3-0-3 when he logs a goal or an assist, compared with 0-3 when he is held off the scoresheet.

Adi won the fan vote over some impressive contenders, including LA Galaxy attacker Giovani dos Santos (3 goals, 2 assists in 3 games in April, 23%), Earthquakes forward Chris Wondolowski (4 goals in 6 games, 18.5%), Toronto FC forward Sebastian Giovinco (4 goals in 4 road games, 15.5%) and Colorado Rapids midfielder Jermaine Jones (2 goals, 2 assists in 3 games, 9%).

The five Etihad Airways Player of the Month finalists are selected at the end of each month by the MLSsoccer.com editorial staff. The winner is then determined by a fan vote.
