After winning the 2015 MLS Cup on Sunday, Maximiliano Urruti has already found a new team.
The Portland Timbers striker was selected with the No. 1 overall pick in Stage 1 of the Re-Entry Draft. Urruti joined Toronto FC in 2013 before being traded to Portland shortly after.
In 65 games (24 starts) with the Timbers over three seasons, Urruti scored 15 goals and contributed five assists.
He also played a big part in Portland's run to MLS Cup. The Timbers were down 2-1 to Sporting Kansas City in extratime of the Knockout Round game before the Argentine scored in the 118th to force penalty kicks. He put his penalty kick past Jon Kempin in the ensuing shootout.
The only other selection in Stage 1 was by Sporting Kansas City, who selected former Chicago Fire goalkeeper Alec Kann. Kann spent three seasons with the Fire with his only start coming on Decision Day against the New York Red Bulls.
Players selected in Stage 1 of the Re-Entry Draft will be able to sign with their new club for their current contract option for 2016. Players unselected in Stage 1 will be eligible for Stage 2; picks from Stage 2 will negotiate new deals with their new clubs.
Stage 2 of the Re-Entry Draft will take place next Thursday, December 17.
