VIDEO: Landon Donovan "doesn't remember" being cut from USMNT's World Cup team | SIDELINE

Landon Donovan stars in Foot Locker commercial with NBA star James Harden

Major League Soccer and US Soccer legend Landon Donovan was left off the USMNT's 2014 World Cup roster, but don't tell him that, because he seems to have "forgotten."

Donovan, who announced last week that he would retire from professional soccer at the end of the 2014 season, appears in a new Foot Locker ad (above video) with Houston Rockets star James Harden, comically pleading ignorance and claiming he was never cut from the national team.

Harden, who fancies himself as a bit of a soccer player (facetious link, that one), asks Donovan about the whole ordeal, but the all-time leading goalscorer for MLS and the USMNT isn't having any of it.

"James, they can't cut me," he quips. "I'm the captain. Like they'd ever cut me."

Harden writes the matter off to Donovan having "one of those short memories, like all the greats," which is the premise of the funny, two-part commercial series featuring the NBA star. Part 1 can be seen here.

Cross-sport marketing at its best. It's the most animated personality we've seen out of Donovan since the last time he made a self-deprecating commercial about not making the World Cup team.
