HOUSTON – Brad Davis and Tim Cahill denied a report of a physical altercation at halftime of Sunday’s 3-0 New York Red Bull win over the Houston Dynamo.
CSN Houston reported on their broadcast that the two exchanged heated words and shoves, eventually ending with Cahill putting Davis in a headlock coming down the tunnel that both home and visiting teams share to access the field. According to the report, the two had to be separated by four teammates.
After the game, Davis denied the incident multiple times. When asked what happened between him and Cahill, Davis replied “Nothing.” When asked specifically if the physical altercation took place, Davis replied, “No.” His reported opposite number, Cahill, followed suit denying the report.
Cahill drew the ire of the Dynamo early in the first half after going down following a bump from Kofi Sarkodie. Along with scoring the fastest goal in MLS history, Cahill was a thorn in Houston’s side on the day.
While the pair denied any physical altercation, Houston head coach Dominic Kinnear acknowledged that a discussion took place. However, he did not speak to the nature of the talk or what happened.
“They were just talking, that was all it was,” Kinnear said. “Two guys had a disagreement. I was at the top of the tunnel and by the time I got there both guys had moved on so I don’t think it was too bad.”
At the end of the match, Davis and Cahill did shake hands before walking off the field.
