Columbus Crew legend Guillermo Barros Schelotto has poured cold water on rumors that he is a candidate to become the MLS club's new head coach ahead of the 2014 MLS season.
But next June, it might be another story.
In an interview with FutbolMLS.com's Argentina-based reporter Emmanuel Quispe, the Crew legend and former 2008 MLS Cup champion says that he plans on honoring his managerial contract with his current club, Argentine side Lanús, which sits at mid-table in Argentina with a 3-3-4 record.
"Yes, I know about the opening after [Robert] Warzycha left," the 40-year-old Schelotto said. "The truth is I have nothing to say. I am happy at Lanús and I have a contract until June 2014. Obviously, in the future, of course I would like to return to MLS. But in this moment, the only thing I'm thinking of is Lanús."
The Crew fired manager Robert Warzycha on September 2 and named technical director Brian Bliss as the interim head coach through the end of the season. Bliss has made it clear he has intentions on making a run at the full-time gig.
"I think Bliss has given a nice touch to the team and they are responding instead of giving up," Schelotto said.
The Crew are currently in eighth place in the East, four points away from the fifth and final playoff spot with just two matches to play in the 2013 regular season. Here are the scenarios that could see Columbus eliminated from postseason contention this weekend.
