American Exports: Barrett nearly scores in loan debut

AMSTERDAM – Vålerenga debutant Chad Barrett went close to scoring twice in a 55-minute start as the Norwegian visitors dropped a tough 4-2 decision at fourth place FK Haugesund on Friday.


Barrett, who was loaned out of from the LA Galaxy this week, fired narrowly wide of goal from a good position on 10 minutes. He nodded a pinpoint Ahmed Suleiman agonizingly over from close range just minutes later.


After the American's removal, Vålerenga were able to cancel out a two-goal deficit in the span of 15 minutes, but their Canada netminder Lars Hirschfeld was eventually forced to pick the ball out of the VIF net twice in the last minutes of the game.


The result leaves Vålerenga with a very tentative hold on sixth place through 18 Tippeligaen matches.
