Atlanta United acquired Gutman permanently via transfer from Celtic FC on March 9, 2021. Gutman was then loaned to the New York Red Bulls in exchange for the club’s natural third round selection in the 2024 MLS SuperDraft and up to $50,000 in 2022 General Allocation Money if specific performance conditions are reached.
The defender played his first match with the club in the 2022 season opener, playing the full 90 minutes in a 3-1 win against Sporting Kansas City. Gutman would go on to start the first 12 matches of the season before suffering a left quadriceps tendon injury. After missing nine matches, he would make his return to the Atlanta United back line off the bench in a 0-0 tie against Chicago Fire FC on July 30. In the club's next match against Seattle Sounders, Gutman scored a stoppage-time winner from outside of the box in an appearance off the bench for his first Atlanta United goal. He would go on to set new career highs in games played (25), games started (22), minutes played (1,963) and goals (4).
With New York, Gutman appeared in 22 games, starting 19 of them and recording 1,837 minutes. The versatile defender recorded two goals, including his first career MLS goal on April 25 against LA Galaxy. Gutman added two assists with the Red Bulls in 2021. The defender started and played all 120 minutes in New York’s lone playoff match of 2021 against Philadelphia.
Gutman signed with Celtic of the Scottish Premiership in January of 2019. He later joined FC Cincinnati via loan on Aug. 3, 2019 where he made 29 appearances and 20 starts for the club through the 2020 season.
Born in Hinsdale, Illinois, Gutman starred at Indiana University, scoring 20 goals with 17 assists in 90 appearances for the Hoosiers. He helped the team to consecutive College Cup appearances in 2017 and 2018 and earned the 2018 MAC Hermann Trophy, awarded to the best college soccer player in the country.
2022 (Atlanta United): Started 24 of his 27 appearances across all competitions. MLS: Set career highs in games played (25), games started (22), minutes played (1,963) and goals (4). Added two assists. Gutman scored his first Atlanta United goal with a dramatic late winner in second-half stoppage time against Seattle Sounders on Aug. 6. His performance against Seattle earned him a spot in the Week 24 MLSsoccer.com Team of the Week, where he would appear again in Week 31 for helping keep a clean sheet and assisting Thiago Almada in a 1-0 win against Orlando City SC at Exploria Stadium. U.S. Open Cup: Started both of Atlanta’s matches against Chattanooga and Nashville SC.Â
2021 (New York Red Bulls): Set career highs in games played (22), games started (19), minutes played (1,837), goals (2), and assists (2) in his first season with New York. Gutman scored his first career MLS goal against LA Galaxy on April 25, then tallied his first assist for the Red Bulls on Aug. 18 against Columbus Crew. MLS Cup Playoffs: Made his MLS Cup Playoffs debut against Philadelphia Union on Nov. 20 where he started and played all 120 minutes.
2020 (FC Cincinnati): Set career highs in games played (21), games started (15), and minutes played (1,441). He made his first start of the season against Atlanta United on July 16 in MLS is Back tournament and started in six of the seven shoutouts earned.
2019 (FC Cincinnati/Charlotte Independence): MLS: Started in five of eight appearances and totaled 482 minutes played. He recorded his first MLS appearance and start against Columbus Crew on August 10, then tallied first MLS assist against New York City FC on August 17. USL Championship: Appeared and started in 14 matches...recorded 1,260 minutes played...scored three goals and added one assist...made professional debut and scored first professional goal against Indy Eleven on March 15... tallied his first professional assist against NYRB II on April 13.
