USMNT announce roster with six MLS players for international friendly against Ecuador

It was a long time coming, but US Soccer finally released the US national team roster on Monday morning ahead of international friendlies this week against Ecuador (Friday, 7 pm ET, ESPN) and Honduras (Oct. 14, 8 pm ET, ESPN).

With the squad gathering Monday to begin training, the roster for the Ecuador match includes:

  • Goalkeepers: Brad Guzan, Bill Hamid, Nick Rimando
  • Defenders: John Brooks, Timothy Chandler, Greg Garza, Omar Gonzalez, Michael Orozco, Tim Ream, DeAndre Yedlin
  • Midfielders: Alejandro Bedoya, Joe Corona, Mix Diskerud, Luis Gil, Julian Green, Alfredo Morales
  • Forwards: Jozy Altidore, Landon Donovan, Joe Gyau, Miguel Ibarra, Bobby Wood

Friday's game at Rentschler Field in East Hartford, Conn., is a national-team farewell to retiring hero Landon Donovan, the all-time US leader in international goals and assists and the MLS record-holder in both categories.

Other MLS call-ups include goalkeepers Nick Rimando and Bill Hamid, defenders Omar Gonzalez and DeAndre Yedlin and midfielder Luis Gil.

Minnesota United attacker Miguel Ibarra was also named to the squad, the first player from the lower divisions of North American soccer to receive a US national-team call-up since Clyde Simms was asked to remain in camp with the full team in 2005, while still a member of the Richmond Kickers.

The Oct. 14 game will be played at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Fla., and several changes are expected for the roster, which will be confirmed later this week.

In addition to the national team call-ups, eight MLS players will participate in a training camp and friendly against Brazil with the US U-23 national team.
