Sporting Kansas City sign MLS veteran Tim Melia as third goalkeeper ahead of 2015 campaign

And just like that Sporting Kansas City have three goalkeepers again.

After offloading 2014 starter Eric Kronberg and his back-up Andy Gruenebaum earlier in December, manager Peter Vermes on Tuesday signed his third goalkeeper for the 2015 season. And it's a familiar name in MLS circles.

SKC on Tuesday announced the signing of five-year MLS veteran Tim Melia off waivers and he joins Chilean veteran netminder Luis Marin and 21-year-old Homegrown goalkeeper Jon Kempin on the roster.

The 28-year-old Melia was recently a league pool goalkeeper in late 2014 after being waived by Chivas USA in July. He filled in for three MLS clubs in emergency situations, including Sporting KC, where he made the 18-man roster for three regular season matches.

In previous seasons he defended the colors of Real Salt Lake (2010-2011) and Chivas USA (2012-2014), also featuring in USL PRO with the Rochester Rhinos (2008), Charleston Battery (on loan in 2010) and FC New York (on loan in 2011).
