Player Ratings: Canada national team up-and-comers outpace Uzbekistan

Canada national team - Celebrates goal - Austria training camp

The Canada national team wrapped up a week-long Austrian adventure with a 2-1 friendly victory over Uzbekistan at Thermenstadion Bad Waltersdorf. Here's a breakdown of who stood out, and who stood around:

Starting XI

Kenny Stamatopoulos (6) Had little to do in the shot-stopping department, and was let down by his defenders on Uzbekistan’s goal.

Karl Ouimette (6) Didn’t look out of place on the left side of the back line, despite customarily playing in a central or right-sided role.

Dejan Jakovic (5.5) A solid game overall, but loses points for getting bewildered in the lead-up to Uzbekistan’s goal.

Manjrekar James (n/a) The young center back was forced out of the game after 15 minutes due to injury.

Doneil Henry (6) Don’t look now, but the former TFC center back just might be settling into this new role as a right fullback.

Samuel Piette (6) Did well to protect the defensive line for most of the game.

Junior Hoilett (6.5) Dangerous as ever down the left flank, unafraid to take on defenders. His whipped-in cross created Canada’s second goal (an Uzbek own-goal)

David Edgar (6.5) Performed well in his unfamiliar role as an attacking midfielder, including scoring his third goal in a Canadian jersey.

Scott Arfield (7.5) All over the place in his second start for Canada. Earned an assist on Canada’s first goal and brought new life into the attack.

Tesho Akindele (6.5) Strong performance on the right side of midfield for the second straight game; subbed out early in the second half.

Tosaint Ricketts (6) Put pressure on the opposing back line and caused some problems up front; subbed out in the second half.

Substitutions

Steven Vitoria (6) Played most of the game alongside Jakovic after James’s injury; made a case for his spot in the lineup come September.

Marcus Haber (5.5) Subbed in as striker, though flow of the game didn’t play to his strengths.

Iain Hume (6) Another attacking sub, had a late chance at goal and dig some digging on the defensive side.

Michael Petrasso (6) Brought some youthful energy in the final 10 minutes of the game, as Canada was attempting to hold the lead.

Simeon Jackson (6) Also came on in the waning minutes to give Canada a different look on the attacking end.
