Kick Off: Portland need a CCL win tonight | Didier Drogba dilemma resolved

Here is everything you need to know about MLS and North American soccer this morning:

Settled matter

After he refused to be on Sunday's gameday roster as a sub, Didier Drogba and Montreal boss Mauro Biello have patched things up. Because of this, Armchair Analyst Matt Doyle says the Impact will head into the postseason with a souped up super-sub. Will Parchman cites a precedent when he says the entire episode could be a defining moment for Biello and the Impact in 2016.

Passing phase

The Portland Timbers need a victory over Saprissa in tonight's home clash (10 pm ET, live on Facebook and tape delayed on UDN at 2 am ET) to reach the CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinals. Elsewhere, Sporting KC will cap their group stage by welcoming Atlanta United FC forward Kenwyne Jones and Central FC for a match between two eliminated teams (8 pm ET, live on Facebook).

Power move

Thanks to their fourth straight win, D.C. United jumped into the Top 5 of our MLSsoccer.com Power Rankings for the first time all season.

Bagging a hat trick

New York Red Bulls goal machine Bradley Wright-Phillips scored his third MLS Player of the Week prize of the season.

Busted Hoop

According to Sports Illustrated scribe Brian Straus, FC Dallas ace Mauro Diaz is set for Achilles surgery and an expected layoff of about eight months.

Let's make a deal

Sports Illustrated also reports that NYCFC are in contract extension talks with strike star David Villa.

Duel meaning

When the Vancouver Whitecaps host the Portland Timbers on Decision Day (4 pm ET on TSN1 in Canada; MLS LIVE in USA), it won't just help decide the Timbers' playoff fate; there's also the matter of settling this year's Cascadia Cup.

The long game

The Seattle Sounders could cap a massive season rally by booking a playoff spot on Decision Day at home against Real Salt Lake (4 pm ET on ESPN in USA, MLS LIVE in Canada), but doing so would certainly not complete their to-do list for the season.

Stuck in reverse

Our own Ben Couch notes that four MLS clubs in the playoff race could be found guilty of backing into the postseason. One of them, Real Salt Lake, is doing so because they've suddenly become goal-shy at the most inopportune time.

Hanging 'em up

Portland midfielder and long-time MLS veteran Ned Grabavoy has announced that he will retire at season's end.

Family business

The Montreal Impact and Serie A side Bologna share an owner, and now the teams are discussing a sporting partnership.

A no-gainer

Over at Top Drawer Soccer, Parchman writes that everyone loses in the controversy brewing over Darlington Nagbe's reported decision to decline a recent USMNT call-up.

En-Chandler-ed?

Serie A title contenders AS Roma have long kept watch over Eintracht Frankfurt and US national team right back Timothy Chandler, and a recent report claims they may finally move for the US international.
