Five stats you need to know from Tuesday night's Leg One matchups

Leg One of the Conference Championships are complete, with both series still very much up for grabs.

The Montreal Impact held on to their win against Toronto FC, defeating their Canadian rivals 3-2 after going up 3-0. In Seattle, the Sounders defeated the Colorado Rapids 2-1, thanks to a game-winning penalty kick from Nicolas Lodeiro.

Here are five stats you should know from the games.

37 minutes

After going up 3-0 in the 52nd minute after Ambroise Oyongo's goal, the Impact failed to put Toronto away. They did not attempt a shot for 37 minutes after Oyongo's goal, while allowing two goals from Toronto. They did manage to take four shots after the 89th minute.

Air Hagglund

With Toronto moving to the 3-5-2 formation, it allowed Nick Hagglund to be re-inserted into the starting XI. One of the benefits of having the third-year center back in the lineup is his ability in the air. Hagglund won 72 percent of his aerials during the regular season, good for the sixth highest rate in MLS, and he displayed his abilities against the Impact by winning eight of the 12 aerials he attempted.

The right way forward

While Hagglund was a beast in the air, he did have a lot of trouble containing Montreal Impact winger Dominic Oduro. The Ghanian scored Montreal's first goal and assisted on the second, and it was clear that Montreal had a game plan to attack down their right side. In the first half, 49 percent of their touches in the final were on the right side. That percentage decreased to 34 percent in the second half.

Roldan shows his stuff

Cristian Roldan has been one of the unsung heroes of Seattle's run to the Audi 2016 MLS Cup Playoffs, but he showed why he shouldn't be overlooked on Tuesday night. The 21-year-old was quite possibly the best central midfielder in a game that included Jermaine Jones and Osvaldo Alonso. Roldan attempted 28 passes in the final third, his highest total this season, and completed 82 percent of them. The season average was 64 percent of passes completed in the final third this season.

Almost 50-50

Both games finished with the home team up one goal heading into Leg Two. In MLS Cup playoffs history, there have been 19 instances in which a series has started with the home team winning Leg One by one goal. Those teams have ended up winning the series nine times, so basically we're looking at two series that could go either way.
