TORONTO – FC Dallas ownership believes that advancing to MLS Cup 2010 will relaunch the club in the eyes of sports fans in the state of Texas.
“I would like to think that FC Dallas, with our appearance in the Cup, will be talked about in the same light as the Texas Rangers this year, as the Dallas Mavericks and as the Dallas Stars,” Clark Hunt said on Saturday.
The Texas Rangers advanced to their first World Series in 2010 and the baseball team was further proof that Dallas loves a winner.
“Having success on the field is important for any fan base, and to some degree it’s particularly important in Dallas because we have such a culture of success in Dallas,” Hunt said.
MLS Cup will mark the first appearance in a final for FC Dallas in the team’s 15-year history. Regardless of how the mainstream Dallas sports fan may react, the soccer community will take notice.
“Winning a championship," Hunt said, "if we’re so fortunate [Sunday] night, would really solidify our tie with the soccer fan base in Dallas.”
