Antonee Robinson - Fulham - tight shot

The result didn’t go how Fulham’s Antonee Robinson drew it up, but the US men’s national team left back now has his first Premier League start.

The 23-year-old defender, who joined Fulham this summer from Wigan Athletic, started and played 90 minutes for the recently-promoted side in a 1-0 defeat against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday.

Robinson had started in Fulham’s three Carabao Cup games earlier this season, though was previously an unused substitute or distant observer in their early first-division tests.

USMNT defender Tim Ream again started for Fulham and logged a 90-minute performance at center back. Ream, 32, has been with The Cottagers since 2015 and remains a fixture in the XI under manager Scott Parker.

Marsch’s Salzburg runs riot

American manager Jesse Marsch steered Red Bull Salzburg to a commanding 7-1 win Sunday over Hartberg. Sekou Koita had a hat trick, while Patson Daka scored two goals himself.

With the win, Salzburg are now two points ahead of Rapid Wien in first place of the Austrian Bundesliga. They won the Austrian double in 2019-20, with the former Montreal Impact and New York Red Bulls boss adjusting quickly to life in Europe.

Lille’s young duo

USMNT forward Timothy Weah came off the bench and Canada national team forward Jonathan David started in Lille’s 3-0 win Sunday over RC Strasbourg Alsace to take second place in the Ligue 1 standings.

Weah came on in the 93rd minute to help see out the win, while David was removed in the 74th minute when Lille already had a commanding lead.

Weah, 20, joined Lille last season, though has been troubled by persistent injuries. He’s been subbed on four times this year and is still searching for his first goal. David, 20, similarly is searching for his first tally for Lille. He joined this past offseason from Belgian club Gent for a reported €30 million.

Besiktas duo suffers setback

USMNT forward Tyler Boyd and former Orlando City SC striker Cyle Larin suffered a 1-0 defeat with Besiktas on Sunday against Genclerbirligi SK. It was their second straight loss, leading to a rough stretch for the Turkish Super Lig side.

Boyd started and played 63 minutes before being removed for Larin, though neither 25-year-old could find a breakthrough.

Boyd was previously in Portugal with Vitoria de Guimaraesbefore a permanent move in 2019, while Larin spent last season on loan with Zulte Waregem in Belgium.

Brooks stalemate

USMNT center back John Anthony Brooks and Wolfsburg battled to a 0-0 draw Sunday against Augsburg. It was Brooks’ third straight 90-minute performance in the Bundesliga as he remains ever-steady in Germany’s top flight.
