Columbus Crew SC fan uses scarf to pop the question at pregame tailgate

Columbus Crew SC fan makes wedding proposal via scarf - MAPFRE Stadium

Scarves have long been a central element of soccer culture. They help fans show their colors, make for distinctive memorabilia and give supporters a handy canvas for expressing identity and allegiance.

As it turns out, they can also help you get hitched.

Columbus Crew SC supporter Ryan Harris used a custom Crew SC-themed scarf to deliver a memorable marriage proposal to his partner and fellow fan Lauren Comer during pregame festivities at MAPFRE Stadium ahead of the Black-and-Gold’s home game vs. New York City FC last weekend.

Harris unfurled his scarf to pop the question, and celebrated with friends and family when Comer said yes.

And the coup de grace? Like so many other things in Columbus soccer, Frankie Hejduk was involved. Crew SC’s brand ambassador, former star fullback and tailgate extraordinaire joined in the joyous festivities and offered his congratulations both in person and via Twitter...

All the best to the happy couple, who hopefully will find a place for Frankie in or around their wedding ceremony. How about a ringbearer?
