After going two games without a goal, New York Red Bulls striker Bradley Wright-Phillips got back on the scoresheet on Saturday night when he scored against Toronto FC in the 26th minute (WATCH IT HERE).
That strike raised his season total to 25, just two shy from tying the single season record held by Chris Wondolowski (2012) and Roy Lassiter (1996).
Wright-Phillips is on pace with Wondolowski, who also entered his final two matches of the 2012 season with 25 goals. In 1996, Lassiter had 24 goals with two games left to play.
This Sunday the Red Bulls will face the Columbus Crew, a team that has conceded just 12 goals in their last 10 games. But Wright-Phillips has scored in each of his previous two games against the Crew this season.
New York then travel to play Sporting Kansas City in the MLS regular season finale on Oct. 26. After a bumpy August and September SKC's backline seems to have righted the ship, collecting clean sheets in each of their last two games. But just like he has against Columbus, Wright-Phillips has also scored in each of his two games against SKC this season.
