TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing
Ambrose, 27, returns to Atlanta after making nine appearances (three starts) with Inter Miami CF in 2020. The fullback has made 31 appearances (20 starts) over five seasons in MLS, originally joining the league with Orlando City SC in 2016.
“Mikey is an MLS veteran who has proven to be a reliable and versatile defender, and we’re pleased to welcome him back to our club,” club VP & technical director Carlos Bocanegra said in a club statement. “We know we’ll be able to count on his experience and leadership to give us additional competition in our back line.”
Ambrose won MLS Cup in 2018, followed by the US Open Cup and Campeones Cup in 2019 with Atlanta.
Atlanta appointed head coach Gabriel Heinze last week as they shift full focus to player transactions this offseason, hoping to rectify a disappointing 2020 season. They have been linked with Boca Juniors midfielder Agustin Almendra, among others.
