Sebastien Le Toux scored his only career MLS hat trick and instantly became a Union cult hero. Jaime Moreno scored his last goal from the run of play in his legendary D.C. United career. Now-LAFC defender Dejan Jakovic received the first of his three red cards as a professional.
And in the end a crowd 34,870 went home celebrating the first competitive victory in club history.
It turned out to be a relatively forgettable season for both clubs. Philadelphia earned 31 points, not the worst expansion season in history by any means but also well adrift of competition for the playoffs. As for D.C., they went on a tailspin that saw coach Curt Onalfo fired and Ben Olsen installed on an interim basis by August, en route to finishing with only 22 points and easily bottom of the Supporters' Shield table.
But on April 10, 2010, they produced an encounter that is well worth remembering.
