Portland Timbers owner Merritt Paulson teases big things for 2020

Portland Timbers - celebrate the goal vs. San Jose Earthquakes - Decision Day 2019

The final days of 2019 are here and one MLS owner is teasing big things for the year ahead.

Portland Timbers CEO Merritt Paulson tweeted on Thursday a slew of big news ahead for the team, including a "big re-signing" and "several prominent new additions" ahead of the 2020 season.

The announcements were somewhat surprising from Paulson, who quietly ended his latest "Twitter retirement" in the fall after going dark a year ago.

So far this offseason, the Timbers have re-signed Diego Valeri, Bill Tuiloma and Steve Clark and parted ways with Brian Fernandez. They have signed Croatian defender Dario Zuparic and been linked to several more transfers in recent weeks, including the brother of club legend Diego Chara, forward Yimmi Chara. Portland reached the Audi 2019 MLS Cup Playoffs, but lost in the opening round against Real Salt Lake.

The Timbers will open their 2020 regular-season campaign on March 1 at home against Minnesota United FC.
