The LA Galaxy made a blockbuster move on Deadline Day, acquiring Boca Juniors winger Cristian Pavon on loan through the remainder of the 2019 season. The move was announced Thursday morning.

The Athletic has reported that itā€™s a free loan, allowing the 23-year-oldā€™s salary to be bought down with Targeted Allocation Money. LA would have the option to buy or loan Pavon for the 2020 season, when multiple Designated Player spots could open as contract situations loom for Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Romain Alessandrini.

Pavon has made 11 appearances for Argentinaā€™s national team, most prominently at the 2018 World Cup in Russia. He did not appear in the 2019 Copa America, though he has featured at the 2016 Olympics, 2015 U-20 World Cup and 2013 U-17 World Cup.

During his time with Boca, Pavon has scored 21 goals across 80 matches. Heā€™s also spent time on loan at Colon and Talleres de Cordoba.

The move marks the second Argentine megastar moving from the Primera Division to MLS in 2019, as Atlanta United bought Pity Martinez from River Plate this past offseason.

However, this move comes after a lengthy transfer pursuit, with several stops and starts along the way. There were even reports that Pavon was heading to France to play for Ligue 1 club Bordeaux. But now the winger is in MLS for the foreseeable future and set to team up with Ibrahimovic as the Galaxy search for their sixth MLS Cup in club history.

The Galaxy, under first-year head coach Guillermo Barros Schelotto are currently in fifth place in the Western Conference standings, dropping their last two games by a combined 7-0 scoreline following an El Trafico win over rivals LAFC.

LA return to action Sunday night (7:30 pm ET | FS1, TSN 1/4) with a visit to D.C. United.
