The reigning MLS Golden Boot winner takes on the current league leader in goals as Josef Martinez and Atlanta United visit Carlos Vela and LAFC Friday night at Banc of California Stadium.
LAFC (14-3-4) look to rebound from a 3-2 El Trafico loss to the LA Galaxy at Dignity Health Sports Complex in Carson last Friday. Vela struck for a brace, including the opening goal just four minutes after kickoff. He scored his second deep in second-half stoppage time, his 21st of the season, but that came after a Zlatan Ibrahimovic hat trick.
Atlanta United (11-8-3) cruised through a double-game week, following a 5-0 romp of 10-man Houston with a 2-0 victory over D.C. United to move within three points of Eastern Conference-leading Philadelphia. Pity Martinez broke the scoreless stalemate with the 89th minute winner and Josef followed with his 16th goal of the season in stoppage time, his 11th goal in his last seven starts.
