Columbus Crew SC 0, Orlando City SC 2 | 2019 MLS Match Recap

Chris Mueller and Tesho Akindele scored in each half, leading Orlando City SC to a 2-0 win over Columbus Crew SC on Saturday at MAPFRE Stadium. It was the club's their first win in Columbus.

The Crew threatened in the closing minutes of the first half and at times in the second but couldn't draw even at one before Akindele's goal sealed Orlando City's win in the 66th minute.

Columbus were without leading scorer Gyasi Zardes, who is with the US men's national team in the Gold Cup, while Orlando City played without Dom Dwyer, who is on paternity leave. The Crew honored the late Sigi Schmid, who guided the team to an MLS Cup title in 2008, as he was enshrined into the club's Circle of Honor.

Three Things

  • THE BIG PICTURE: Orlando City is looking at back-to-back, home-and-home games against East-leading Philadelphia in the span of a week, so three points was important. Columbus have to go west to face Real Salt Lake, as they look to snap a winless skid that started on May 8. Their chances at making the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs are beginning to fade.

  • MOMENT OF THE MATCH:
    Brian Rowe's
    save on a
    Robinho
bicycle kick in the 55th minute kept the Crew scoreless at a time when a goal would have produced a 1-1 draw.

  • MAN OF THE MATCH: The veteran star Nani assisted on both goals, the first one on a deft touch to Mueller who had a clean look on net.
