Penalty or not? Union dispute hand ball call against Kai Wagner

It didn't take long for us to get to the first disputed play of 2019.


Late in the first half of the Philadelphia Union's season opener against Toronto FC, the Union were under pressure and after an incredible save by Union goalkeeper Andre Blake, Philly's Kai Wagner blocked the follow-up shot from Auro


Referee Nima Saghafi spotted a hand ball and called for a penalty. He checked in with the VAR and the call stood as the Union players made the case on behalf of their teammate.


It did not cost the Union in the end as Union goalkeeper Andre Blake went on to save Jonathan Osorio's tame effort:
