TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing

The New England Revolution have looked to bolster their defensive solidity, as they announced the signing of midfielder/defender Cristhian Machado on Monday.

The 28-year-old joins from Bolivian side Jorge Wilstermann, where he had been under contract since 2008. Making over 145 appearances at that club, including in the prestigious Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana, Machado helped them win Bolivian first-division titles in 2016 and 2018. At New England he will be reunited with former Wilstermann manager Marcelo Neveleff, now an assistant coach for the Revolution.

“We are happy to add a talented and experienced player in Cristhian who is capable of contributing in a variety of positions and roles on the field,” Revolution general manager Michael Burns said in a team statement. “We believe his versatility and pedigree will immediately benefit the club and add competition to the roster.”

Machado has spent time with two other clubs in his career, the first half of 2012 on loan at NASL side Ft. Lauderdale Strikers, and at Bolivian outfit Sport Boys from 2014-2015.

A Bolivian international with three caps since making his debut in 2016, Machado was on the 2016 Copa América Centenario roster for La Verde, but holds a Green Card in the US and will therefore not occupy an international roster slot.
