MLS Fantasy managers, in attempting to form a more perfect union, were well served to have C.J. Sapong ($8.1m) on their team for Round 3.
Those founding fathers sure knew what they were talking about.
The Dream Team this week was spread out amongst several different teams, but the Union, fresh off their 3-0 victory, were one of just two to contribute multiple players. Sapong’s brace earned him top point getter for the round with 17, and he was joined on the squad by defender Fabinho ($6.7m). The Union defender is a good demonstration of how the new bonus point rules increase value, as his defending bonus of 5 was worth more than the clean sheet.
This round’s top goalkeeper is another interesting case study, as it was Bobby Shuttleworth ($5.8m) who was on the losing side in that Union-Revs tilt. Despite losing a point for goals conceded, Shuttleworth stopped two penalties, which was good for a 10 point bonus.
Our formation reverted back to a 3-4-3, as Fanendo Adi ($10.2m) and Gyasi Zardes ($9.5m) joined Sapong in managing the brace.
Congrats to this week’s winner Matthew Beck, whose Denver Dynamo climbed to the top of this week’s fantasy table with a 109-point performance. He had Adi captained, as well as top point earner Sapong, and Pedro Morales ($10.8m) from the Dream Team as well. Enjoy your prize!
Ain’t no rest for the wicked…
The Round 4 schedule is an odd duck. Six teams are playing over the international break this coming week, and four of those teams play again the following weekend. All of those games are considered one round, so that makes this our first double game week! What what!
For Fantasy Managers, that means double checking the international rosters before going double crazy. Jurgen Klinsmann’s roster will affect some of the teams playing this weekend, Steve Birnbaum ($7.5m) and Mix Diskerud ($8.2m) specifically. The list of all March call-ups shows even more players affected, like Vancouver’s Kendall Watson ($9.1m).
The other thing to keep in mind for this round is the transfer deadline. The way it’s set up, you may be locking in players this week who won’t play until next week. Crazy things happen in World Cup qualifiers, so this is a good round to have a backup plan.
