Save of the Week

Montreal sweep! Evan Bush wins 2016's inaugural MLS Save of the Week award

It's official: Week 1's hottest goalmouth action belonged to the Montreal Impact.

Evan Bush has edged Sporting Kansas City's Tim Melia to win the first MLS Save of the Week honor for 2016, following closely on the heels of his teammate Ignacio Piatti's AT&T Goal of the Week nod.

While Piatti's twinkle-toed work around the Vancouver Whitecaps goal drew more attention, Bush was just as pivotal in Montreal's impressive 3-2 defeat of their Canadian counterparts at BC Place on Sunday.

The choicest clip from Bush's body of work was surely his acrobatic denial of Octavio Rivero, and it was just a bit more popular than the latest sterling save by Melia, with Bush earning 53 percent of the final vote to the SKC man's 47 percent.

Bush had previously outpaced Orlando's Joe Bendik and Real Salt Lake's Nick Rimando in the early rounds of SOTW's new bracket format.
