World Cup: Rumors of USMNT youngster Julian Green moving to Tottenham are unfounded

Julian Green makes his USMNT debut vs Mexico

AMSTERDAM – Recent UK tabloid rumors suggesting Tottenham have made Bayern Munich II winger Julian Green a transfer target are nothing more than that, MLSsoccer.com has confirmed.

Sources close to the player, who celebrated his 19th birthday on Friday while with the US World Cup squad, say the reports are not true. The original Metro article claimed that Spurs were set to table a £5 million ($8.4 million) offer for Green.

Signed with the Bundesliga champs through the 2016-17 season, Green made his first-team debut in a Champions League group phase win at CSKA Moscow last November. Splitting time between the flank and center forward, he notched 15 goals and eight assists for fourth-flight Bayern II this past season.

His USMNT debut came with a 31-minute shift in a 2-2 friendly draw against arch nemesis Mexico in April, his only cap before being named to Jurgen Klinsmann's 23-man World Cup roster. Green most recently came off the bench for the Americans in their 2-1 win vs. Turkey this past Sunday.
