GUADALAJARA, Mexico – Herculez Gomez has been the subject of interest from Club Atlas, a source with knowledge of the situation has told MLSsoccer.com, but the US international striker has no intention of moving before the domestic transfer window slams shut in Mexico on Wednesday.
According to the source, the 31-year-old Tijuana striker is happy at his his current club after an Apertura championship and with a CONCACAF Champions League tie against the LA Galaxy – his former club – on the horizon.
Atlas have struggled financially over recent years, but have just been bought out by media company TV Azteca, who have paid off debts and are attempting to put together a squad to avoid relegation next season.
Gomez joined Tijuana from Santos Laguna in June and has previously played in the Liga MX for Estudiantes Tecos, Pachuca and Puebla.
The Las Vegas native topped the Liga MX scoring charts in the Bicentenario 2010 tournament with Puebla and won the 2005 MLS Cup with the Galaxy. He figures to be in the running for a spot on the USMNT's roster in Brazil next summer, which would be his second World Cup selection.
