French defender Damien Perrinelle focused on MLS move: "Objective number one"

Veteran French defender Damien Perrinelle has his eye on MLS. In more ways than one.

In an interview published on Sunday by France Football, he said that, despite some offers from clubs in Greece, he is keen on joining an MLS club.

"It is the priority, objective number one," he said.

Perrinelle, 30, also admitted that he had a trial with the New York Red Bulls last month and he is waiting to hear back from the 2013 Supporters' Shield winners.

Last on the books at Ligue 2 side Clermont Foot, Perrinelle is currently without a club. He has played in France for more than a decade, most notably spending four years with US Boulogne -- where he was briefly a teammate of Chicago Fire center back Bakary Soumare. In 2009, Perrinelle helped Boulogne earn promotion to Ligue 1.

Beyond the field, it seems Perrinelle is already involved in MLS, helping organize a few showcase matches for MLS scouts in France, in connection with Le Touquet , or le TAC, a small club in which he is an investor. (Editors note: Nigerian defender Uche Okafor spent a season with le TAC a few years before joining MLS's Kansas City in 1996.) The showcase, according to Perrinelle, is part of MLS's partnership with the French Football Federation, which was established earlier this year.
