Barring setback, New England Revolution say striker Saer Sene could return from ACL rupture in April

Saer Sene celebrates a goal

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – New England striker Saër Sène will miss the start of the season as he continues his recovery from knee surgery, but he could return to the squad as soon as next month, according to Revolution general manager Michael Burns.

Burns said the French striker has made ample progress in his bid to return after tearing the ACL in his left knee last August and could rejoin his teammates at some point in April.

“His rehab has gone fantastically well,” Burns told MLSsoccer.com during the club's media day on Tuesday. “We're anticipating – barring any setbacks – that he will return to the field sometime in April. There's no guarantee there, but that's the time table our medical trainers and our staff have.”

Sène bundled up on Tuesday morning to perform exercises and watch his teammates go through their paces. The ex-Bayern Munich man has not joined his teammates in a full training session yet, but he continues to work with the Revolution training staff on the side in order to facilitate the rehabilitation process.

Those efforts could yield yield dividends as soon as next month, but Burns cautioned that it may take some time for Sène to obtain full fitness once he steps back onto the field.

ldquo; He has worked extremely hard to get back,” Burns said. “Obviously, it's going to take him some time when he gets back from a fitness standpoint and for his game fitness as well.”

Both of those qualities would boost a Revolution side in need of his productivity – the 26-year-old scored a team-high 11 goals in 25 appearances last season – up front. In his stead, the Revs will turn to the likes of Chad Barrett, Jerry Bengtson and Diego Fagundez to provide the goals required to produce results.
