TFC's Koevermans out for rest of season with torn ACL

Danny Koevermans’ season is over.

Toronto FC announced on Tuesday that their leading scorer is out of the lineup for the remainder of the 2012 season — including their return to the CONCACAF Champions League group stage — with a torn ACL in his left knee.

The Dutch forward suffered the injury in the first half of Saturday night’s match at New England, an eventual 1-0 Toronto win in which Koevermans earlier had helped set up Luis Silva for the game’s only goal.

The Designated Player has nine goals in 16 games for Toronto FC this year, his second season with the club. Since joining the Reds in June 2011, Koevermans has scored 19 goals in all competitions for TFC.

Koevermans will have surgery on the injured knee at a date yet to be determined.
