USA in talks with Scotland for potential May friendly

USA vs. Scotland

Scotland could be one of the opponents Jurgen Klinsmann is lining up for the US national team as preparation for 2014 World Cup qualifying.

Reports out of Scotland indicate that the Scottish FA is in talks for a friendly against Klinsmann's squad to be played on May 27 or May 29. The USA face Antigua and Barbuda on June 8 in their first match of CONCACAF qualifying for Brazil 2014.

US Soccer confirmed that Scotland is a possibility.

"We’ve been in discussions with a number of federations about a game in late May, including Scotland," a US Soccer Federation spokesman told MLSsoccer.com on Monday. "Nothing is finalized and we'll continue to have those discussions."

The USMNT has faced Scotland six times in its history with only a single victory, obtained on US soil back on May 26, 1996. The last time they faced off came in Glasgow, Scotland, in November 2005, a match which finished 1-1.

The latest FIFA rankings have the USA (No. 33) positioned 15 places ahead of Scotland (No. 48).
