Nealis captained Georgetown University for two years, where he appeared in 78 matches, making 76 starts in his college career. The defender registered seven goals and 14 assists, while also leading the Hoyas to the 2019 NCAA Division 1 Men’s College Cup title. Nealis was named a MAC Hermann Trophy finalist for the 2019 season, won the Big East Defensive Player of the Year, and was named to the All-Big East First Team and the United Soccer Coaches All-America First Team. During his junior year, he also was named Big East Defensive Player of the Year and All-Big East First Team. Nealis was selected third overall in the 2020 MLS SuperDraft by Inter Miami CF.
