With COVID-19 spreading across the globe, the United States men's national team friendlies against the Netherlands and Wales later this month may be in jeopardy. The federation are still planning on the matches taking place, though things can change quickly.
Particularly in the Netherlands, where mayors of major cities in the Noord-Brabant province agreed to suspend all events where thousands of visitors were expected to attend, including soccer matches. Eindhoven, the location of the USMNT's match against the Netherlands, is located within the Noord-Brabant province.
USMNT released the following statement on social media:
The USMNT's match against the Netherlands is set to take place on March 26, while the game against Wales four days later in Cardiff.
This week, Italy suspended Serie A matches until Apr. 3 due to the outbreak while some European matches, including PSG-Dortmund, Bayern-Chelsea and more are set to be played in empty stadiums, while Wolverhampton-Olympiakos may even be postponed.
Here in the United States, the Santa Clara Public Health Department declared a legal order barring all gatherings of 1,000 people or more. The San Jose Earthquakes released a statement that they are in full support of that ban and will announce exactly how it will impact their next home match soon.
