CHESTER, Pa. — A host of Philadelphia Union players and coaches watched from the stands of their home ground of PPL Park on Tuesday night when the US faced Colombia.
Alongside former US Under-23 coach and current Union manager Peter Nowak and Philadelphia captain Danny Califf, who has 22 caps for the US, was 19-year-old Roger Torres, a native of Barrancabermeja, Colombia.
Though Colombia didn’t win the match, the midfielder was very proud of the product they put on the field en route to a feisty 0-0 draw with the USA.
“I’m really happy to have the team come all the way here,” Torres said. “Seeing them play here and playing very well, I’m really happy to have that honor.”
Torres said he's confident Colombia can qualify for the 2014 World Cup and that he hopes to be part of the team if it does earn a trip to Brazil.
"I think that the coaching is very good and they’re very respectable people and the team that they have put on the field is a very solid team technically," Torres said. "I would love to be on the team. It’s every player’s dream.”
Torres is currently on-loan from Colombian side América de Cali. Arrangements have yet to be made regarding whether he’ll remain with Philadelphia for another season.
