The Colorado Rapids have acquired left back Edgar Castillo on a year-long loan from Liga MX giants Monterrey pending completion of a physical, a source confirmed to MLSsoccer.com on Monday.

Castillo is expected to undergo a physical in Colorado before the start of the New Year. The Rapids will have an option to acquire him permanently following the end of the loan. The club will not use Targeted Allocation Money or a Designated Player slot on him.

The news was reported by several outlets in Mexico and by reporter John E. Rojas over the past several weeks.

One of only two players to represent both the US and Mexico on the international level, the 31-year-old Castillo has spent his entire 11-year pro career in Mexico. He joined Monterrey in June 2015 but has played sparingly for Los Rayados over the last year and a half, recording just one appearance in the recently completed Apertura campaign.

Castillo began his international career in 2007 with Mexico, but filed a one-time switch to represent the US in 2009. He has 18 career caps for the USMNT, with his last appearance coming in March 2016.

Heā€™s the fourth new player to join the Rapids this offseason, following midfielder Johan Blomberg, defender Kip Colvey and forward Jack McBean, who was landed in a trade from LA. The Rapids will begin training camp under first-year head coach Anthony Hudson next month.
