UPDATE, 11:30 am ET, Dec. 23: In a Monday development first reported by Caracol's Diego Rueda and subsequently confirmed by Globo Esporte, it's said that Yimmi Chara is "very close" to joining the Timbers, though Portland and Atletico Mineiro must still agree to transfer terms:
The player is apparently happy with PTFC's proposal, while Atletico president Sergio Sette Camara says Chara is still worth $6 million, the approximate price his club paid for him last year.

Fresh off a strong season with Brazilian side Atletico Mineiro, Colombian attacker Yimmi Chara is in talks to move north to Major League Soccer this winter, according to Brazilian-Canadian journalist Alexandre Ernst, with Brazil's Internacional also in the mix as his next destination.
If that name sounds familiar, it's because Yimmi is the younger brother of Portland Timbers mainstay Diego Chara ā and the siblings might even be on course for a family reunion in the Rose City.
"Chara will be negotiating with MLS. Not signing at Atletico-MG, nor to Inter," writes Ernst, adding that Inter boss Eduardo Coudet has requested the Porto Alegre club make Yimmi one of their prime acquisitions this winter. He goes on to cite the input of his colleague Leo Gomide, who posits Portland are the MLS team in question:
Yimmi, 28, is a different sort of player from Diego, typically working as a winger or attacking midfielder. He's well-traveled, having served several clubs across three countries, including Mexican sides Monterrey and Sinaloa.
He has also been on the fringe of the Colombian national team pool for several years, narrowly missing out out on their 2018 World Cup squad and earning 10 caps since 2014. He's also been linked to MLS in years past.
