Update, Sept. 26, 4:37 ET: According to a report from ESPN FC, Guardado will renew his contract with Real Betis for two more years, keeping him with the La Liga side until 2022.

Tuesday, 6:08 pm ET: Long linked with MLS, is 2020 the year Andres Guardado comes in the league?

According to TUDN, Guardado is set to sign in MLS in 2020, with the Chicago Fire being the first in line to land his signature, though other clubs are also interested. He was also linked with LAFC last summer in the most recent Guardado-to-MLS report.

Guardado, 32, moved to Real Betis ahead of the 2017/18 season, making 75 appearances for the La Liga side. Prior to that, he played for Dutch powerhouse PSV Eindhoven as well as Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen and Spanish clubs Valencia and Deportivo La CoruƱa.

He has 162 appearances for the Mexico national team, a staple for El Tri since his debut in 2005.

New Fire owner Joe Mansueto, when asked on ExtraTime if the club will aim to sign a Mexican star, said he wants the club to sign as many good players as they can to help fill Soldier Field, the stadium the club is planning on moving to in 2020.
