Prom king Pulisic? US national team midfielder hits his high school dance

Copa America - Christian Pulisic

Christian Pulisic didn’t let the US national team get in the way of attending his senior prom.

The 17-year-old midfielder took a break from the USMNT’s Copa America Centenario preparations a couple of weeks ago to fly home to Hershey, Pennsylvania to attend the dance.

Per Sports Illustrated senior writer Grant Wahl, Pulisic received permission from Jurgen Klinsmann to leave US camp for prom, but securing the US head coach’s blessing wasn’t the only hoop he had to jump through.

Prom came one day before the US played Bolivia in a friendly in Kansas City on May 28, and commercial flights wouldn’t get him back to Children’s Mercy Park in time for the match. That wasn’t an issue for the Borussia Dortmund youngster, whom Wahl reports hired a private plane, then came off the bench to score his first career international goal in the US’s 4-0 victory the next day.

Heck of a happy ending, kid.
