Montreal Impact 3, DC United 0 | 2019 MLS Preseason Match Recap

Mathieu Choiniere goal celebration vs. DC preseason

The Montreal impact ended 2019 MLS Preseason presented by Advocare on a high note, defeating D.C. United, 3-0, at Al Lang Stadium Saturday night on goals by Ignacio Piatti, Maxi Urruti and Mathieu Choiniere.

Piatti scored the lone goal of the first half, capping a nice combination with Saphir Taider and Urruti with a calm finish.

D.C. United were awarded a penalty kick in the 69th minute when Evan Bush clattered over Steve Birnbaum on a lofted service. But much to the disappointment of the crowd who were chanting “Rooney, Rooney,” the penalty was wiped out on Video Review due to an offside infraction before the foul.

Urruti added an insurance goal in the 79th minute, putting a low shot past Bill Hamid after latching onto a service by Choiniere, who grounded Gonzalo Jara with his dribbling.

Choiniere then closed out the preseason in spectacular fashion, latching onto a bouncing ball and unleashing a stunning volley from distance under the crossbar in the first minute of stoppage time. Consider Impact coach Remi Garde impressed.

The Rowdies Suncoast Invitational match was the last tuneup for both teams. #MLSisBack begins for the Impact against the San Jose Earthquakes at Avaya Stadium on March 2 (10 pm ET | ESPN+), while D.C. United meet defending MLS Cup champion Atlanta United March 3 (6 pm ET | ESPN, TSN, ESPN Deportes)
