The LA Galaxy announced their schedule for the 2009 MLS regular season Wednesday. The club will once again play 30 games, 15 at home and 15 on the road, in 2009, starting with their season opener against D.C. United at The Home Depot Center on Sunday, March 22.
Of the Galaxy's 30 games in 2009, 15 will aired by the league's national broadcast partners, ABC/ESPN, Fox Soccer Channel and Telefutura. Kicking off the season, Telefutura will broadcast the Galaxy's first-ever game against Seattle Sounders FC at Qwest Field on Sunday, May 10 (12 p.m.) and the match against defending MLS Cup Champion Columbus Crew on Sunday, May 17 (12 p.m.). The Galaxy's annual Fourth of July match against the New England Revolution (8 p.m.) and the club's trip to Giants Stadium to face the New York Red Bulls on Saturday, July 18 (3 p.m.) will be featured on FSC. Additionally, both of the club's games against the Chicago Fire will be aired on ESPN.
For the second straight year, the Galaxy play six matches against their two California rivals, Chivas USA and the San Jose Earthquakes. In 2008, the Galaxy had a combined record of 3-1-2 against these two rivals, and they will be looking to match or better that mark this season. Four of these six matches will be broadcast nationally, with ESPN covering two of the SuperClasico's against Chivas USA and the Galaxy's second and final visit of the season to San Jose on June 20, with that game once again scheduled to be played at Oakland Alameda County Coliseum. Fox Soccer Channel will broadcast the Galaxy's game against Chivas USA at The Home Depot Center on July 11.
The Galaxy opens their 14th season of play on Sunday, March 22 against four-time MLS Cup champion D.C. United at 12 p.m. (PT), live on Telefutura from The Home Depot Center.
