FC Dallas sign former Atletico Madrid midfielder Luccin

Peter Luccin - FC Dallas

FC Dallas addressed a position of need on Monday, announcing they have signed former Atlético Madrid defensive midfielder Peter Luccin.

The 33-year-old native of Marseille, France, started his career in the youth system of French club AS Cannes before playing 118 matches in the French Ligue 1 between stints with Bordeaux, Marseille and Paris Saint-Germain.

He moved to Spain’s La Liga in 2001, where he started a total of 215 matches with Celta de Vigo, Atlético Madrid, Real Zaragoza and Racing Santander.

“Peter came in at the end of the season to be seen by the FC Dallas coaching staff,” FC Dallas head coach Schellas Hyndman said in a statement. “We were in the final two weeks of training, so he was being measured against a group of players who were very fit. He really impressed us. He can cover a lot of space in central midfield and he seldom loses the ball."

With the expected departure of Julian de Guzman, whom Hyndman told ExtraTime Radio last week could head back to Europe, FC Dallas were thin at the defensive midfielder position. The signing of Luccin would appear to be a solution.

"His resume is quite outstanding, having played quite a few years in the first divisions in France and Spain," Hydman added in the statement. "He is going to be a very good addition to our team.”

Luccin will be added to the team pending receipt of his P-1 visa and International Transfer Certificate. Per team and MLS policy, the terms of the deal will not be disclosed.
