FC Dallas sign defender Daniel Torres

FC Dallas have signed Costa Rican defender Daniel Torres from Bryne FK of Norway's Second Division.

FC Dallas General Manager Michael Hitchcock announced Tuesday that the team has signed Costa Rican defender Daniel Torres from Bryne FK of Norway's Second Division.

Torres is currently with the Costa Rica national team in Honduras participating in the UNCAF Nations Cup through Feb. 1. He will join FC Dallas following the tournament and pending the receipt of his visa. Per league and team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The 31-year-old began his professional career with Costa Rican side Deportiva Saprissa in 1996 and won consecutive league championships in 1998 and 1999. Torres transferred to the Columbus Crew in 2001, and played three seasons in Major League Soccer before returning to Saprissa in 2003, where he again helped his original club win the league title.

In 2005, the central defender split his time between European clubs Tromso IL (Norway) and Bodens BK (Sweden) before making a return to MLS with Real Salt Lake in 2006. After two seasons at RSL, Torres transferred to Bryne FK of Norway's Second Division for the 2008 season.
