A howler from Pascal Cygan gifted Osasuna a vital point in their battle against the drop as they drew with Villarreal at El Madrigal.
The former Arsenal defender fluffed a routine clearance in his own six-yard box, presenting the chance for substitute Dady to cancel out a first-half strike from Guiseppe Rossi.
The Yellow Submarine will probably feel they did enough to win the game but they were denied on numerous occasions by the excellent goalkeeping of Roberto and the Pamplona-based side have reason to be optimistic as they looked anything but a side rooted to the bottom of the table.
The game was played in blustery conditions with litter blowing across the pitch throughout and it made for a scrappy affair at times, although both teams did their best to be positive and entertain.
Osasuna started with greater purpose and forced a number of corners in the opening exchanges but their early attempts to test a makeshift Villarreal defence in the absence of Gonzalo and Diego Godin came to nothing.
The hosts soon settled down and began to take control with Joseba Llorente going close with a backheeled attempt from a Rossi cross after 19 minutes but the outstretched leg of Miguel Flano took the sting out of his effort, allowing Roberto to collect with ease.
Manuel Pellegrini's men were beginning to work some good openings and they eventually forced the breakthrough after 28 minutes.
Santi Cazorla lifted a neat little chip into Rossi near the penalty spot and the Italian evaded his marker, taking the ball on his chest and firing a shot underneath the advancing Roberto into the far corner.
That appeared to settle any nerves in the home ranks but Osasuna were not prepared to lie down and they continued to probe whenever they could, getting plenty of bodies into the attacking third.
A mistake by Fabricio Fuentes allowed Hector Font a run at goal but the striker was caught in two minds and allowed the defender to get back and make a saving tackle.
Jaroslav Plasil then went close with a shot that took a wicked deflection, while at the other end Marcos Senna might have done better when hitting the side netting after a disappointing free-kick from Rossi dropped kindly for him.
Villarreal were probably just about good value for their lead at the interval but Osasuna gave warning of their threat early in the second period when Plasil brought a fine save out of Lopez with an arrowed shot that was destined for the far corner.
Senna then tried his luck with a vicious drive from distance moments later but Roberto was alert to the danger and tipped the ball over his crossbar.
The Osasuna keeper was now beginning to play a starring role as Villarreal went in search of the killer second goal but they couldn't find a way through and paid the price on 65 minutes when Dady drew the visitors level.
Plasil fired in a cross from the left and Cygan got his clearance all wrong, scraping his studs across the top of the ball as it rolled into the path of the Cape Verde striker, who could not miss from three yards.
Cazorla then brought another fine save out of Roberto, while Mati Fernandez snatched at a shot from 25 yards when he had the chance to burst through on goal but that was the closest Villarreal came to getting their noses back in front.
Indeed, it could have been much worse had Diego Lopez not been alert to a fierce Dady strike at his near post as Osasuna sensed the chance to cause an upset in the dying moments.
