Gregg Berhalter and Bruce Arena know each other well, and that relationship resulted in another trade on a busy Tuesday in MLS.
The Crew announced that have acquired midfielder Hector Jimenez (above left) and the Galaxy's first round 2014 MLS SuperDraft selection (14th overall) in exchange for their 2014 second-round pick (23rd overall) and allocation money. Per club and MLS policy, additional terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“Hector is an exciting young player and we are pleased to welcome him to our club,” Berhalter said in a statement. "He is a player that possesses several strong attacking attributes and will help our squad immediately."
In three campaigns with the Galaxy, Jimenez, 25, has made 43 appearances and recorded four goals and six assists. He set career highs last season by scoring three goals and recording four assists in 26 appearances. He also earned eight appearances in the CONCACAF Champions League.
After spending 2006-10 at Cal, where he was a three-time First Team All-Pac 10 player (2008-2010) and finished second on the school's all-time assist list (28), Jimenez was drafted by the Galaxy in the second round (34th overall) of the 2011 MLS SuperDraft. The midfielder was also a member of the U. Under-17 national team residency program in Bradenton, Fla., in 2004 and 2005.
Following the transaction with LA, the Crew now hold two selections in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft: a first-round selection (14th overall from LA) and the Crew’s natural selection of the third round (fourth pick, 42nd overall).
On Monday, the Crew acquired the rights to defender Michael Parkhurst from the New England Revolution in exchange for the Crew’s natural 2014 first-round selection (fourth overall) and allocation money.
