Chivas USA forward 'Paco' Palencia records special TV spot for American Red Cross

Paco Palencia recorded a TV spot for the American Red Cross on Thursday.

CARSON, Calif. - Chivas USA forward Francisco 'Paco' Palencia today recorded a public service announcement for the American Red Cross at The Home Depot Center. The two-time World Cup veteran was accompanied by two blood recipient children, Juan Pablo Quintero and Víctor De León, each of whom requires dozens of blood transfusions per year to stay alive.

The 30-second spot, which will air on Southland television stations in both Spanish and English, promotes Chivas USA's joint campaign with the American Red Cross, aimed at encouraging soccer fans to donate life-saving blood on a regular basis, while educating the general public about blood shortages. The unique joint initiative, which will be officially launched in early March, kicks off with three major blood drives throughout the Greater Los Angeles area.

Since its founding in 1881 by visionary leader Clara Barton, the American Red Cross has been the nation's premier emergency response organization. As part of a worldwide movement that offers neutral humanitarian care to the victims of war, the American Red Cross distinguished itself by also aiding victims of devastating natural disasters.

Chivas USA, Major League Soccer's Mexican-owned, Los Angeles-based franchise, kicks off its second campaign in MLS on April 2, 2006 at 4:00 p.m. PT versus Real Salt Lake at The Home Depot Center in Carson, California. Tickets, starting at just $10 per game, are available by calling 1-877-CHIVAS-1 or online via www.CDCHIVASUSA.com.
