While American soccer is still managing through World Cup hangover, US national team captain and Seattle Sounders star Clint Dempsey is already looking ahead at the next opportunity to make waves.
The 2016 Copa América Centenario that will be played on US soil.
"I'm excited and looking forward to the Copa América in two years' time, that being here on home soil, it will continue the growth of the game in the United States," Dempsey told ESPNFC.com.
The Copa América is the continental championship involving all 10 nations in South America that is held every four years. In 2015 the tournament will be held in Chile, but soccer authorities have come together to organize a special edition in 2016 to celebrate the 100-year anniversary since the first Copa América back in 1916.
With five-time World Cup champions Brazil, 2014 World Cup finalists Argentina and star-studded teams like Chile, Uruguay and Colombia, it'll prove a massive test for the US national team. But it's a trophy that the USA can aspire to win, according to Deuce.
"Yeah, I think that's realistic and it's something that you have to push for," Dempsey said. "It's not just saying it, it's doing it. It will be difficult but at the same time, anything is possible. On home soil, you want to make it count.
"It's exciting to be able to test ourselves in that competition and seeing what we're able to accomplish. But that's something that you have to be pushing for especially because you don't get many opportunities to play in competitions like that."
