LAFC forward & Golden Boot leader Diego Rossi called up to Uruguay for upcoming Conmebol World Cup qualifiers

After initially getting left off his country's final roster, LAFC star Diego Rossi has been called up to Uruguay for their upcoming Conmebol World Cup qualifiers.

Rossi was summoned as an injury replacement after fellow countryman Cristhian Stuani suffered a knee injury in his most recent match for Spanish club Girona.

Rossi's omission in the first place caught some by surprise, as the 22-year-old is currently in the midst of a blistering, MVP-caliber campaign for LAFC that has seen him rack up 12 goals and dish out two assists in 15 games, more than enough to put him atop the race for the 2020 MLS Golden Boot presented by Audi. He's the second LAFC player to get called up to Uruguay for the qualifiers, joining teammate Brian Rodriguez.

The Conmebol World Cup qualifiers are scheduled to kick off October 8. Uruguay will host Chile on Thursday before traveling to face Ecuador on Oct. 13, a clash which could potentially see Rossi and Rodriguez face LAFC teammates Jose Cifuentes and Diego Palacios.
